It’s Showtime the Sand 21th May 2011

It’s Showtime the Sand 21th May 2011

i dont see any news on this event over here so i thought to post it. Such fights as Khamal vs. Van Roosmalen and as i hear also Hesdy Gerger is up to fight this weekend.
Fresh off of an excellent fight card in Lyon, France which featured Tyrone Spong, 70 kg. kingpin Giorgio Petrosyan, and the return of Badr Hari, It’s Showtime will be returning to Amsterdam this Saturday, May 21st. While the promotion’s return to The Sand may not draw quite the same attention at first glance as last week’s event in Lyon, it seems sure to deliver with a number of action fighters meeting on the evening.

What’s more, the dedicated kickboxing fan is sure to recognize that just as important as the names which have already been made are those currently in the making. With that in mind, it is evident that Saturday’s 70 kg. contest between Mohammed Khamal and Robin van Roosmalen is one which fans should look to with great anticipation.

Robin van Roosmalen’s first real shot on the big stage came at the K-1 MAX Netherlands 2008, where he fought fellow up-and-comer Leroy Kaestner to a draw in the event’s opening bout. While Kaestner was able to move on to the K-1 MAX tournament final by the next year, van Roosmalen spent two years posting mixed results in Muay Thai bouts around Europe, dropping a decision in an important bout against Antuan Siangboxing and defeating the likes of Achmed Zragua and Anthony Nekrui along the way.

Mohammed Khamal was able to build a solid string of wins through 2008 and 2009 – albeit while fighting at significantly lighter weight limits – avenging an earlier career loss to Sergio Wielzen and scoring a surprise win over former Lumpinee Stadium champion Anuwat Kaewsamrit at 64 kg. in late 2009. While the win over Anuwat, which gaved Khamal a World Muay Thai Council title, may have not been the most high-profile, it certainly helped open the door to the K-1 MAX division for the Moroccan-Dutch fighter.

It was at the K-1 World MAX 2010 West Europe Tournament that Khamal and van Roosmalen would first meet, the two young fighters caught on the same side of an eight-man bracket which also featured Harut Grigorian and Anthony Kane. Khamal defeated van Roosmalen by first round knockout in the semifinals, en route to a tournament win which led him to the K-1 World MAX 2010.

Khamal has gone 2-2 since his regional tournament win, sandwiching two K-1 MAX bouts – a victory over Artur Kyshenko preceding a quarterfinal loss toGago Drago – between a loss to Chahid Oulad el Hadj last May and a win over Mosab Amrani in December. For his part, Robin van Roosmalen stumbled a bit in the follow-up to his loss against Khamal, but has since posted an impressive win streak which includes a victory over Chahid Oulad el Hadj at It’s Showtime Sporthallen Zuid in March.

Given their competitive histories, the narrative will be a little different for both fighters as they enter the ring on Saturday. Be that as it may, the promise that they share is as evident as their singular goal of victory. While it’s impossible to say what either fighter may or may not be able to accomplish down the line, come May 21st, fans would be ill-advised to pass up such an opportunity to witness two fighters who could certainly be players in the future of the 70 kg. division.
