Петросян и Пайонсук встретятся на родине Олимпийских Игр|Giorgio Petrosyan v. Pajonsuk Announced for Stacked It’s Showtime Show

11 декабря пройдет очередное шоу It’s Showtime. На этот раз событие примет столица Греции, Афины. На официальном сайте появилась информация о предстоящих поединках.

On December 11, It’s Showtime will present a show from Athens, Greece. We’ve known of this show for some time, but have only had a partial list of participating fighters until today. Now, the card is announced, and folks, it’s a good one.

Pajonsuk Superpro Samui vs Giorgio Petrosyan
IT’S SHOWTIME world title 70kg Max:
Chris Ngimbi vs Murat Direkçi

There’s so much great stuff here it’s hard to know where to begin. But let’s start with current MAX champion Giorgio Petrosyan against Pajonsuk. This is a huge fight, as Petrosyan has been unstoppable for almost 4 years, while Pajonsuk scored the biggest win of his kickboxing career earlier this year when he defeated Yoshihiro Sato. The only fighters who have ever had success against Petrosyan are Thai fighters, and right now, Pajonsuk is one of the best Thai representatives to the world of international kickboxing. This should be great.

After that, we have a pair of high quality title fights. 70kg champion Murat Direkci is in action against Chris Ngimbi. Direkci is the best 70kg talent not in K-1, and he’ll have another chance to prove it here. Ngimbi is not as high profile, but has quietly built up a very strong resume over the past year, with wins over Chahid, Dennis Schneidmiller, and Willian Diender among others. He’s a fun fighter who will put in a good showing.

At 61kg, the newly crowned champion Sergio Wielzen defends against high ranked Japanese talent Masahiro Yamamoto. Yamamoto was the easy favorite heading into the K-1 GP this year, but he’s slipped in status since losing to eventual GP champ Yamato in the opening round. It’s exciting to see Yamamoto competing in It’s Showtime, as we have seen very little crossover between the Japanese 60-63kg fighters and fighters in Europe. This will be a great way to see where the Japanese talent stands in relation to the international scene.

Add in the return to action of Alexey Ignashov, and fights from the always fun Drago and Chahid, and you have an excellent card.

Also of note, this is the same date as the K-1 Grand Prix. With concerns about the future of K-1, It’s Showtime has the very real position to claim the top spot in the international kickboxing scene. I wouldn’t read some big challenge into this date, but it will be very interesting to see the top two organizations present two huge shows on the same day.
