Thai Fight Launching Lawsuit Against MAX Muay Thai

MAX Muay Thai seems to be the name in everyone’s mouth recently, and rival promotion Thai Fight is not going to be overtaken while lying down. FSA’s sources have told us that Thai Fight, the original international muay thai organization dedicated to promoting fights between high level Thai superstars and foreign opponents, will be launching a lawsuit aimed the newly formed MAX company to halt their momentum before it starts.

Thai Fight held a press-conference earlier today in Thailand announcing their intentions of initiating a legal offensive against MAX. While we don’t know the exact charges, it seems that the bulk of the suit hinges around the idea that MAX’s mission statement is very similar to that of Thai Fight’s.

While some of MAX’s media campaigns have advertised their promotion as a more competitive Thai Fight counter-part, they are certainly not the first to pit the top fighters in Thailand against foreign opponent’s. Elite Boxing’s “Thailand vs. Challenger” series is one example and there are plenty more.

We currently don’t know whether or not the suit has anything to do with MAX’s recent acquisition of Buakaw Banchamek, although his name does not seem to have come up.

The chances of Thai Fight’s lawsuit damaging MAX is negligible at best. After facing public outcry about the use of low-level foreign opposition, Thai Fight is struggling to stay on the good side of their audience. After the loss of Buakaw, public favor shifted even further away from Thai Fight and onto MAX. What we are seeing may be the last efforts to salvage a sinking brand, although whether it will do more harm than good remains uncertain.
