The 2012 Tatneft Cup continued its action in its home of Kazan, Russia today, hosting the third series of qualifying fights of the first stage. As usual, there were six fights, with two at 70kg, two at 80kg and two at Heavyweight.

Starting off with 70kg, the first fight pitted Sergey Kulyaba of Ukraine against Alexei Dodonov of Russia. Kulyaba took a decision in an extra fourth round. Amadou Ba of France took on Namkabuan Lek of Thailand. Namkabuan Lek also won a decision over four rounds.

At 80kg, The Polish-Belarussian fighter Stanislaw Zaniewski was up against Miran Fabjan of Slovenia. The fight went to an extra round where Zaniewski knocked Fabjan down to take the fight. It’s not clear if Miran was stopped or just lost the round because of the knockdown. In the other 80kg fight, our #6 ranked Light Heavyweight Alexander Stetsurenko took a decision over Tadas Jonkus, also in an extra round.

At heavyweight, Tomsz Sarara met Zentai Mate. Sarara won by knockout and advanced to the next stage. In an upset, last year’s Tatneft Cup champion, Hicham Achalhi, was beaten by Yassin Bouanan. Bouanen knocked Achalhi down in the third round and again, it’s not clear if he stopped Achalhi or if the fight went to decision. Click “Read More” to see quick results.
